Building an IF Flowchart
Resource: Example IF Flowchart
General tips when building out your flowchart:
- Post-it notes are your friend. You can assign different colored post-it notes to different flowchart symbols. E.g.: orange = start/end; blue = data input, etc.
- Consult your overhead map to help keep you on track, but don’t be afraid to add or remove areas as you complete your flowchart. The beautiful thing about developing a prototype is that you may shift things around and iterate as you see fit.
- You must assume that the player knows nothing about Wonderland and never read a Lewis Carroll work. Add enough detail to tell a complete chapter from the book. You may need to add some background information from previous chapters to set the scene for the player.
- Leave no rock unturned. The flowchart should capture every player decision, however small, so that the world and all its finite possibilities are accounted for. It's okay if you miss a few things that later find their way in the final prototype, but try to be as thorough as possible.
